CHESTER, England (AP) — The medal awarded to Manchester United great George Best when the team won the 1968 European Cup has been sold at auction for $247,200.
British auctioneer Bonhams sold 13 medals earned by the Northern Ireland international for a total of $317,000 on Wednesday. It had estimated the value of the European Cup medal at $142,600 to $190,200.

He died at 59 in 2005 following decades of alcoholism. His sister will receive the proceeds of the medal sale.
